Home care is a range of health and personal support services provided in a person's home. Services include help with daily activities, nursing care, and light housekeeping.
Most individuals with chronic health conditions, such as ALS, strongly prefer to remain in their homes for as long as they can. It is often of significant benefit to live at home instead of in a care facility; at home, there are no restrictions when it comes to visitors or keeping a schedule.
Home care can be provided by government-funded organizations, private companies, or private individuals. Friends or family members may also handle some tasks. The allocation of these responsibilities varies by region and depends on the resources available to the individual.
Most formal home care is conducted by Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. Some people may opt for live-in care if it is affordable.

Homes may require adaptations and modifications to enable an individual with ALS to safely live in it. This subject is covered in the Occupational Therapy section of ALSWiki.org.
