Patient transport services are private, for-hire companies that offer services to transport patients in non-emergency situations, such as to appointments or events.
Only companies with suitable licensing and insurance should ever be hired to transport a patient.
Pricing for private patient transport services is often not regulated. The company may set any price for a given journey, depending on the time of day and the distance to be travelled. A round-trip journey which is very far away and of such long duration that the driver is compelled to leave and service other clients are often the most expensive.
Companies may have different policies related to bringing additional passengers. Most will allow an attendant caregiver to ride in the vehicle for free. Seating for additional passengers may be limited.
